Adam McKay Officially Working On ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

February 17th, 2016

There has been a lot of talk about who and who won’t be involved in the next installment of Ant-Man. We know that Peyton Reed will be back to direct and that two staff writers will be writing the script. With the title alone, we know that Paul Rudd and and Evangeline Lilly will be back in front of the camera. But Adam McKay, who has been busy with other projects, and who took on the rewrites for the script for the first film has simply been “hopeful” up until now to be involved. According to McKay himself, he’ll be back.

The writer/director recently spoke with Nerdist at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and he told the website that he will definitely be involved in the movie. He explained to the site:

We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a little headline for the fanboys!

Given his busy schedule, it’s likely that the script will be at least partially written before McKay is involved with it. Maybe he’ll be brought in to clean up certain aspects or flesh out others as Paul Rudd did for the first film with him before they went into production.

McKay is currently promoting his film The Big Short, which you can catch in theaters now. He recently nabbed a Best Director Oscar nomination for his work on the movie.

You can catch Ant-Man on DVD and on digital platforms now. The script for the second volume is currently in the works. Expected to film next year, Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to hit theaters in July 2018. While we don’t know if we’ll see the Wasp before then, audiences will be able to see Ant-Man in action in Captain America: Civil War in theaters this May.
